SOUVENIR PROGRAM CELEBRATES 1913 RIVER CROSSING

The 1913 grand opening of the country's largest swing bridge, connecting East Haddam and Haddam, began a new era of convenience for those communities and other nearby towns. The opening celebration was a very big deal, attended by several governors past and present and hundreds of area residents. Town leader Judge Purple paid the first toll, which marked the start of a new day in transportation and commerce for the town.
